Commercial Property Insurance
From D.O.K. Insurance Agency
Commercial property insurance provides a wide range of coverage for buildings, inventory, equipment, tools and more. Losses from fire, broken pipes, break-in, vandalism, wind and other natural or manmade disasters are examples of what is typically covered. Please keep in mind that flood and earthquake related losses will not be covered unless specific policies are put in place.
Below are the most common types of coverages available.
Commercial Property Coverage
If your business owns any building, this coverage is a must-have. There could be limitations to outdoor signs, detached structures and equipment. There are dozens of endorsements, exclusions and terms and conditions that can make all the difference. If you are not 100% sure how your current policy is written, please let us help you review your policy right away.
Business Personal Property (BPP) Coverage
BPP insurance covers property at specified locations such as furniture, fixtures, equipment (that may or may not be permanently attached) and inventory. Be aware that most commercial property policies have very limited coverage for property taken off the listed locations on your policy. If you have tools or equipment that is frequently taken off-site, it is important that you have an inland marine policy. If you have equipment that is permanently attached to a building you own but it is insured under your BPP policy let us help you find ways to save premium to insure your equipment.
Business Income (Business Interruption Coverage)
This coverage reimburses a business for lost profits as well as fixed expenses during the time that a business is closed due to a covered claim (such as fire or storm damage). Business Income insurance may also cover financial losses that are due to civil authorities limiting customer access to your business after a disaster. There are a lot of details involved with Business Income coverage so if you aren’t 100% sure what your current policy covers, please let us review your policy today.
Flood Insurance
Commercial property policies exclude flood damages. At the D.O.K. Insurance Agency, we are licensed and trained to help individuals and businesses with their flood insurance needs. After Harvey hit the Houston area, only 20% of homes had flood insurance. Only a slightly higher percentage of business had flood insurance. Sometimes you may not be aware of what your flood risk is. Contact us to find out if your business or home is located in or near a flood zone.
Electronic Data Processing (EDP) Insurance
Most businesses and organizations rely on their computer and data management systems. If technology (both the hardware, data stored on your computers and the software that is run) is a significant business investment for your business, it is important that you are insured against losses to your technology. Most property policies only provide limited coverage for computer equipment and exclude losses that are specific to data, media, and losses caused by computer cyber related attacks (i.e. virus).
While a few years ago a business primarily had to worry about discs, hard-drives, tapes and other data storage devices being lost in a fire, for example, today’s data protection and recovery needs continue to evolve. Cyber liability is a must-have for any business that stores sensitive data or does business online including having employees use emails, business owned computers or browse the internet while having client or vendor data stored on the same computer.
